reedal
personally i wouldn't fuse an alt wire, but i wouldn't recommend someone else not to. Same. I don't fuse mine. But I tell people to for the sake of safety. Bayuk89
ok that makes sense. im also looking at buying a crescendo s1500.1 for my subs, but i dont know which specs i need to look at to calculate the fuse that i would need. is it the volts x amperes = watts to figure out the fuse size?Cresendo has two 1500 watt amps. One is ment for mids and the other is for subs, they are built different hope you chose the correct one.*** this is the one for subs *** http://www.down4soundshop.com/symphony-s1500-1-out-of-stock-eta-tbd/ *** this one is for mids *** http://www.down4soundshop.com/symphony-s1500-1f-this-model-is-for-mid-range-not-subs/ Just in case you didnt know

Bayuk89
I dont know each specific differences but i do know the internal componets are different to handle its designed function. The s1500 is engineered for subwoofers and the s1500f for mid range drivers.

Bump4life
so much misinformation. based on the output of the alternator your gave, my guess is that its a gm unit. heck it can be any OEM unit. And I can tell you all OEM units are rated HOT and at lower rpm than most of the HO alt manufacturers. I'd bet my left nut that OEM 145A alt can do close to 160-180A. You go with a 150A fuse, it may eventually cause a significant resistance and eventually blow the fuse hopefully before it melts the holder due to the heat. Either way, you fuse for the wire. because you dont want the wire transmitting too much current and melting causing a fire hazard. it should be placed as close to the battery as possible. 250A will be fine. but the fuse is for the wire, not for the device. edit: an alternator will never put out a "spike" of amperage. the power isnt magically created under short circuit conditions. any power spike due to short would be coming from the battery. Jessica
all i know is i fuse lowest i can, so fuse near battery and fuse for alt output. Fusing near the alt is wrong imo. I would just use some 2ga for the run from alt to batt. Rest in peace, walled 87 accord build log 03' Corolla build with AA Mayhem inside. My super random youtube channel and terrible camera work. I answered it before. I just can't bring myself to go through it again.
