mike12
So just to state this is not a VS thread. I just want to know what the advantages or disadvantages of say running 2 12s that are 1k rms ea over say a single 12 at 2k rms or even a single 15 at 2k rms

mike12
what would be an advantage of useing a single 15 at 2k then 2 12s at 1k each could i hit better lows?

WalledSonic
Doubling cone area roughly doubles your output (or increases by ~3dB). Doubling your power roughly doubles your output (or increases by ~3dB). In theory, a single 12 on 2000W or 2 12s on 1000W would be the same. HOWEVER, due to a variety of factors, there will be differences. Then we get into motor force per cone area, box size, porting size, cabin volume, etc etc and then it gets more complicated. Ok thanks im just thinking... ive ran 2 12s in my trunk forever and was wanting to get more lows didnt know if im better off sticking with 2 12s and changing tuning or if a single 15 would be better to achieve lower frequencys
WalledSonic
Are you running a sealed or ported box? Maybe you can optimize what you already have. What are the specs of the box? Net volume and port area? How much power are you running? rocking.that.eclipse
2 subs will have more heat dissipation through the coils too so that it would be a plus for 2 12s
