Dunno. I've always liked MDF much myself. If I need to make the box bit stronger, I double-layed the MDF altogether. Weight is not of a concern to me. Is the weight you're concern about?
It's no way we can tell you which one is louder. It depends on installation, power, etc. The best way to find out is to "play" with them. Build, test, tune, test, test, etc until you happy with the results.
Chicks dig big subwoofer. Just kidding. I see nothing wrong with going for a single 18". If I have a van or a big truck, I'd go for it. I only own 10"s and 12"s in my whole life.
Hey, that's my cash! Nice setup. I, too, wondered about how they sound in person. Seems like not many people own XXX series (or maybe it's just me.) I really dig the looks of subwoofer and it gives it own "beefy"-looks to it.
Honestly, I rather have the Bass Boost completely off (or set at zero). If you smell something, then it's probably a good idea to turn down the gain. If your subwoofer is new, then give it some time to 'break-in'. I learned all about that years ago. Just don't be too "tough" on it.

I've always wondered about this. From time to time, I've thought about building a wall someday, however I was told that it's consider illegal to do that. I wouldn't want to build a hardwork wall and then, all of the suddenly, a cop pulls me over and tells me to take everything down. At the same time, I just thought it was odd that the police did not do anything to stop people from building a wall when they're doing it for the big show. I understand that maybe each state has their own laws. But does anyone know about this? So is it legal or not?
<---just wondering!!
Hey, I, too, have a nissan frontier Truck (1999)! Here's the pictures:
Have that system for about two years now. Lately, I've been itching to go for a single Solo X 12" and tuned it low. I haven't decided it just yet. I'd love to see pictures of your stereo setup, guys!
