White Lightning
Well, my dream system (that will eventually be in my car) will consist of the front stage components running almost two grand alone ... But a real good sounding system can be done if you do some good research. You can look on my signature for my son's 88 ford truck system build. It's a single cab truck with a nice system setup. jk13
Since this is in the SQ section (even on SMD) I'd do something like this: And listen to all the gear first. Choose what you dig within your budget. $200-300 HU $400-600 front component speakers $300-600 4 or 5 channel amp (active or bi-amped front on the 5 channel) or 2+1 or 4+1 separate amps... $200-350 single sub Set some aside for custom box, custom front component mounting, wires, etc. Meaning don't buy everything at the top of the budget I listed. If you love a $600 component set, spend a little less on the sub or somewhere else. Skip the rear. Basic, simple SQ system. Static drops are my bag. bcbrassard
Budget builds are fun and can turn out surprisingly well. Did one in a Ranger for 1k and it sounded real nice. But on the other hand i have about 2k in electrical in my system. Location doesnt help the cost when your away from the lower 48.

MrSkippyJ
Uh, most of us have over 2k in our systems anyway. dick Really? I misread a question and I am a dick. No idea how my answer came off as anything but answering what I though his question was. He clarified his question and got some damn good help. but somehow I am a dick for trying to answer his question too. Got it. hispls
Only 2,000$ tied up in audio.... those were the days. OP. Buy used, do as much work as you can yourself, and most importantly have a plan going in what your goals are. Once you think you know what it'll cost you, add 20% for shit that'll come up or you never considered.
