I dont know why, but I'm fascinated with all aspects. I've read quite a bit of historical fiction based around WWII, cant get enough. Ken Follett wrote a bunch of historical fiction surrounding WWII, hes a terrific author. In fact, he has the century trilogy that starts with WWI, then continues on to WWII, and then on to Cold War. The trilogy revolves around the same families from England, Russia, America, and Germany and the different generations of each and how their lives intertwine. Incredible writing.
