Any good way to not spark when you put a fuse in?

Recommended Posts

Is there any way to equalize the current flow on the two sides of the fuse holder to not give a spark whenever you connect the fuse?

or if I were to go the route of disconnecting the battery + ; then putting in the fuse, how would I stop it from sparking from the + post to the terminal?

Sparking is common. Make sure there is no fuel or vapors  hanging around. I've had great results disconnecting the negative terminal and wrapping it with some sort heavy fabric. Then, do all connections including fuses. When you're ready to reconnect,  apply negative terminal with a dedicated fluid motion. Sparking is common,  make sure you don't have some residual fuel caked up somewhere

You can use a resistor to limit the current flow while your amps capacitors charge. Then remove the resistor and drop the fuse in place. Since the caps and battery are at the same potential, you wont see a spark.

But sparks arent a big deal, like 8ten8 stated above. The resistor thing isnt really necessary.

@WalledSonic @8ten8 Thanks guys. It just still scares the shit out of me, but if it wont do any harm if there's no hazards around then it'll be fine to keep sparkin!

caps in a amp if it hasn't been hooked up in a while will insta charge which causes a spark, I hate it too, I wear safety glasses when I do it now

FWIW you can use a 12v bulb too. When the bulb goes out you're pretty well there

I use a resistor. After about 10-15 seconds there isn't a spark when connecting.
