The difference between when the DD-1 reads distortion and when it is visible by a human eye on a scope is fairly negligible, IF it is distortion caused by clipping. In terms of dB it would be within a couple of tenths, not 6.5dB, not even 1dB. If the distortion is caused by something other than clipping, there will be a huge difference between the DD-1 and a scope because scopes don't display distortion in a manner that a human eye would be able to read. If I had to make a guess about what happened here, assuming that everything was done correctly and everyone is being honest, I'd guess that the amplifier in question is dirty to the point that it is over 1% THD wayyyy before clipping. This is what the DD-1 saw, thus it said "hey I see excessive distortion". It is up to the operator of the device to determine the source of said distortion. When used to set gain, if you start with the gain down and the correct overlap track and the DD-1 reads the signal as clean, and then one proceeds to turn up the gain until the distortion LED illuminates you are pretty guaranteed that the distortion it is reading is due to clipping and you have now set the gain properly. HOWEVER, there are some seriously dirty noisy ass class D amplifiers on the market these days, and the DD-1 will call them out every time. The DD-1 is pretty amazing, but it's not magic or psychic. If this were happening in my install, I would check the signal from the front to the rear making sure everything stays distortion free throughout the entire range of the volume control (up until the point where we know the source distorts). If that the signal is clean all the way through the volume range, but distorted at the amplifier intermittently or continuously throughout the volume range, then we know exactly where the problem lies. Without seeing any of what happened first hand, this is my best guess.

With the sub looking about the size of a ship anchor, I'd say it would take 2200 watts like it was nothing...

Amps usually are linear throughout the whole frequency range. The difference in wattage should be nowhere near audible. So if you set it up at 40hz, it's very unlikely you'll have clipping at 30hz.(maybe 30-20hz is you have some special brazilian amp..But that's the amp that is bad) If your friend burps, it shouldn't matter that the tone clips a little. Most of the times a little clipping will increase your score because it can put out more wattage.(sometimes even hard clipping gets you higher scores.)

exactly. ill tell you what. setting gains in two minutes instead of finding my oscope thats now collecting dust realizing the batteries are dead and then trying to find batteries for it then fighting with it is enough for me. If you take the time to learn about how it works its really a great tool. I guess thats why they are using them at mobile solutions etc to teach the real intsallers. Not the shade tree DIY guys like us. It wouldnt matter. Because the people hes making the video for would either not understand it or choose not to. Someone who invented the most efficient Car Audio Amplifier in the world. Go look at the T-15K among other technology used by RF I do know one thing. this kid gredysra. I remember the thread here where he tried to say his dd-1 blew his amp. not his shitty electrical or the fact he even used it wrong. I can prove that if needed. just goes to show you that people will lie to impress people

I know Damore doesnt have time for this shit, but I personally would be interested in them doing another tutorial video refuting the claims. Its not their job to refute claims, however, their past vids have been extremely informative.....and Im basically not going to take Joe Blows claims about a product if they arent from Damore

thats funny...considering our team HAS and HAS USED this item. You didnt see him stating that it damaged HIS system. Dont be so quick to judge people. In all honesty, with the Tech claims that the maker of the DD1 makes, there is probabley no one in this thread capable of commenting on it...because we were all clamping our amps up until a few monthes back when they completely refuted this method...What im saying is that the same people clamping their amps are the same ones claiming some elite knowledge of a product

the guy's an ass, but I support his comment about setting amps loaded and the tone to use.. Steve doesnt like setting amps loaded. Sure it works.. like setting a gain with a DMM, but honesty its not accurate. actually, the gain overlap is the ONLY thing that changes when you set them unloaded. And that is only a few db. Nothing big at all. The DMM is not accurate at all. Our product is deadly accurate.

You know what, I just realized he's talking about clipping... DD is a distortion detector, not a clipping detector. Nuff said.

people should read the manual.. if they did then they wouldnt have issues with voltage drop by the way.. ave you guys noticed less voltage drop when tuned correctly? i did find it to be easier on my electrical

Close, The dd-1 is designed to set amps at battery resting voltage, which is less than a system charging voltage. You are right about proper electrical, as you should not drop below battery resting voltage to reduce the risk of clipping. Not to say that clipping will absolutely happen if you do drop below battery resting voltage. This is why you set gains using the dd-1 with the engine off.

Someone mentioned price and why we are "charging so much" for x amount of dollars worth of materials. I deleted it. I will explain something though for those that don't understand. First of all, we didn't and tell anyone what the materials cost us. So you spitting out a number, about what we paid, when you don't know, is kinda a cheap shot. I will tell you guys this, we chose top of the line wire AND RCA ends. They are not cheap by any means. Then after you buy all the materials, there is building them, set by set by set by set......and someone has to do it, and they don't work for free. These are hand made, and not being mass produced out of China. Then you have the hand testing, and signed books showing results of every individual set. The books cost money to print, the paper aint free and the ink isn't cheap. The packaging costs money. Items being shipped from D'Amore, to me and me back to them. I have assistants working with me that help me do inventory, shipping, and the biggest one of all, getting it all on the websites. Everything costs money. So i think with all that said, our RCA's are pretty cheap for the QUALITY you get. why am i explaining all that? because everyone puts the price of what we do in materials alone but there is a lot more to having products brought to market then the rawest materials. Plus, we did NOT skimp and buy cheap stuff. Every part in EVERY product we use is the best we can source. thanks for your understanding in this matter :D
