sorry you are incorrect here. its better to have more power available then less. Just because you can get 1000 rms @1ohm, it does not mean you have to have it at full tilt everytime. There is alot you need to read and learn before you can tell people that they are wrong. Generally when I am not familiar with a subject "I try" to refrain from telling people what to do.I'll have to disagree with you on this stealth...I don't think it's a good idea for someone who appears to be new to car audio to overpower a subwoofer. Yes the SA12 can handle 1000w and not be damaged, but if you don't know what you are doing, if your enclosure isn't designed properly, if he were to not want to void his warranty (I know he's looking at a used sub, this is more of a general statement) or doesn't have the proper tools to tune his system, then the advice you have him is pretty bad and can damage his equipment. If I were you OP, I'd buy the SA 12 and play with it and then read and learn more before you get into overpowering your subs. Edit- And that used d4 will wire down to 2ohms and match up pretty good with the 2ohm rating on your amp.

Playing at 2-ohms is over-all a much better decision. The voltage drop will be less, output signal cleaner, heat will be less, strain on your amp and alternator will be less, and much more. As stated if running on the same ohm load the difference in 250w will be very small. As duck stated you then gain the option to later in the future buy another 12 and wire to 1 ohm.

OP, all the arguments aside, if you can get a BNIB sa-12 for $150 grab it. i'm sure you will be very happy with the 750 watts and since i doubt you have any electrical upgrades then running that mbquart at 2ohm would be better for the amp too since you wont have as much voltage drop. Plus, you can grab a second sa-12 later that is d4 and then wire down to 1ohm once you have your electrical in order and you will be all set.

I ran 2 SA-10's on SAZ2500 without any problem. 1000watts for SA is nothing really. Considering that the box is right and amp is set right. Also the amp you got will not really put out 1000wrms, at best you'll se 700-800wrms.

The difference between 1ohm and 2ohms on his amp is 250w...hardly going to hear a difference. You are right...he will most likely be fine running at 1ohm, the SA subs are beasts and have been proven to take quite a bit of abuse...BUT my whole argument this whole time is that we don't know if the op is capable of overpowering a sub. It doesn't take much to burn up a coil if you don't know how it happens or what you are doing, and the whole reason he was asking if it would be a good match was cause a guy is selling one for $150 which is a good deal, but it's a d4, so 2ohm is the lowest he can wire and that amp is rated at 150w more @2ohms then the SA's are rated at.

You are giving bad advice...we don't know the op's experience. Of course he isn't going to actually see the "full rated watts" but if he doesn't have the tools to set the amp right, then your 400 watt "guess" of how much he will see is still enough to melt a coil. If your bad advice makes him blow his equipment then I'm sure you won't be the first to offer him the money to recone the sub. Even though it's only $40 for the recone, maybe he doesn't want to have to deal with it, maybe he doesn't want to spend $40 every time your bad advice blows his sub. No not the D2- you will be pushing a 1,000 watts. And that will be pushing that sub to the limit. Get the D4 and wire down to 2ohms, the 750 watts your amp pushed at 2ohms will be plenty for that sub. Your amp will also stay cooler and be more efficient at 2ohms.

To answer the OP -- the Z v.4 line has been known to handle ~2x or so of it's rated power. A thermal failure is unlikely in most applications -- you would be more likely to damage the lead-wire via clipping or perhaps even damage the spider itself physically. In one of our test bench setups here (Jovanni's Golf) on a 3500D @ 0.5 ohm we saw these type of things before thermal failure. He did have a massive 3 cubic foot box for one 12" woofer, though, so a more reasonable box would largely eliminate the possibility of physical spider damage (2.25 or so seems to be pretty ideal in our testing so far). So just keep an eye on clipping and you can run a ton of power on them =)

The system was all coming out, I was (and did) going to rip everything out down to bare metal. My actual point was to prove using the CCA would show a decrease in performance and score...to my surprise it didn't. i don't get what you are trying to say. It is worth $5500-6000 but i paid $6500 plus tax. The dealer probably made $1000 bucks off me. Big deal. I saw the receipts and they put about $600 into it with a oil change, tune up, water pump, brakes and a few small items. I don't expect the dealership to be in business to go broke. I got a fair deal. I am happy. My son is shit-bricks happy.
