I think the whole thing is a steaming load of horse crap.

You'll have people who can barely speak english, little/no job skills, doing medial jobs that makes $2-3/hr less than someone who just got out of college.

Then there's inflation

And think about this as an employer: You have to provide healthcare to your employees. Operating costs of whatever business you're in. Keeping prices competitive. Now you have to pay your employees almost twice as much. Now you need to start letting people go because you cannot afford to keep them. Boom high unemployment.

I mean seriously people.... It's not like you get paid minimum wage doing a skilled job that required years of schooling. You get paid minimum wage because it takes no skill and no previous experience/learning to do your job. You want higher pay, do something worthy of higher pay.

And speaking from experience as a college student, it can be a PITA enough as it is to get a decent job. That's going to make it *that* much harder

It's nice knowing that people that may have been working for years starting at minimum wage and working their way up have now lost all that progress and can go get a job at a pizza place and make the same amount of money.

If they can find someone that isn't trying to work half the crew at normal speeds to try to keep profitable that is.

all it does it make everything more expensive. it doesnt solve anything. the minimum wage jobs now haveing to pay 15 willl increase their dollar menu to the 5 dollar menu

edit: second thought, in addition, my girlfriends 9 year old sister can make a sandwich. so pretty much she should get paid 15 dollars an hour. I have never worked at mcdonalds, i worked at a restaurant, ( a nice one) and even 15 dollars an hour just seems high for a fast food place when there isnt much skill at all required.

i hate all these people that feel entitled. get off your ass, stop complaining and work for it. things in life shouldn't be handed out for free. so pretty much these people who may not have even graduated high school are gunna be payed more than 50% of the US population.

but 15 is just the worst thing minimum wage could be.

here in michigan the minimum wage is 7.40. I understand there are families that live off that. i dont see hurt in a small increase to maybe 8-9 dollars AT MOST to account for inflation and then some, but 15? are these politicians really hurting for a vote that bad? they are gunna risk the economy? just terrible

See the issue that people don't account for is that it's not just a pay increase. Lets just says it's a 20% increase. On the employer side it's also a 20% for workers comp. 20% for payroll. 20% for insurance because we all know if you have so many employees, you are required to cover health-care now. So in all reality, that 15 bucks is now 20+ bucks an hour. And where do you think all that extra comes from? Pockets of the local store owner? Nah, he's just going to pass the savings along to the customers.

It's a win for places like MCD. The franchise owners have to increase their prices of burgers to hold the same profit margin they currently have now. Which I can tell you from experience isn't a whole lot. Yet MCD corporate is paid a percentage of sales by the franchise owner. So you and I pay more. Store owner makes the same as before. And MCD Corp makes even more then they did before the pay raise. MERICA!

Such a bad idea...and now, when every employer that has minimum wage employees has to raise their prices to accommodate for the higher cost of labor, everyone who has good paying careers is essentially going to be "taxed" to pay for it.

So basically this is just another form of welfare that encourages non educated or unskilled people to be lazy and ride on that backs of other hard working people. I sure hope this isn't going to trickle over to other states.
