Gain set with DD-1... Subs getting warm after full tilt runs.

It's perfectly normal for subs to be warm after you beat on them.

That being said a lot of people's definition of "music" is a clipped 30 hz sine wave with some 80 IQ knuckle head grunting about committing crimes and his genitals.

Everything above plus consider if you were playing below tuning your impedance curve usually dives after the port frequency. Master P had some pretty low notes though I don't recall the bass line on that particular track off-hand. You cant bank on impedance rise. That said, you are probably clipping.

These drivers have been in the truck for several years on a smaller amp. I upsized the amp recently (from 2krms to 3krms @1ohm) and picked up the DD-1 for properly setting everything.

The box is tuned at 30hz but I haven't done any testing on it to verify exactly where it is (if that's possible). The box is rather large and has a lot of port area.

I'd say the drivers were getting hot... I could smell them and the dust caps were warm to the touch... However even after several years of being beat on at 2k rms, the drivers are still really stiff if that makes a difference. They feel like the day I pulled them out of the box.

unfortunately the smd dd-1 is not the end all tuning tool, it will get you close. different songs are recorded different volumes and such so that affects the distortion coming out of amp

If they were fine on 2k and you say the box is big for what you're running, the increase in power that your giving them (if you're even getting that power) could potentially be a problem. Too much airspace with too much power.

Also, playing outside of your tuning range could be an issue. lets say you're tuned at 36 and you trying to play 20. your gonna have issues
