wow, and if anyone ever priced that scope they know that their dd1 is a bargain and WORTH IT!

In this video I compared the DD-1 to my Fluke 123 Scopemeter... or rather verified the waveform vs when the DD-1 detected distortion. The results are within.

perfect explanation. On one click, he is just below 1% and the next click he is over. The DD-1 kicks off @ 1% so it did do it's job for sure. Plus, that particular scope is 10x more expensive then the DD-1 so that is FTW too

Nice video! For the haters: The dd-1 kicks in at 1% THD. It is possible to see something lower than that (say .5%) like what you observed. The unit works perfectly as advertised: pick up a certain percentage of distortion and notifies you. It doesn't kick in at exactly the slightest bit above 0% distortion. And that's just not practical

If it kicked in at any sign of distortion Audiopipe users wouldn't be able to use the dd-1 hehe just poking fun, DD1 is a great tool, love mine, wont get rid of it. I use it on my home receiver too. surprising how loud it get before the light kicked on.

I have used a DD-1 for the past couple years. Before that I really didn't have a clue. There are other ways to set gains I would agree but you cant go wrong with a DD-1 if you use it correctly and I wouldn't use anything else. Great video!

Goes with me at all the meets. And gets used errrry time. And fuck no I don't charge a dime. Knowledge is free. You gotta want it though. (had that same fluke scope meter also)

In for video. Ecrack prepaid to be critiqued by tony on those vids My dd1 has only tuned less then 15 headunits and less then 20 amps. 3 times were a redo on my own car for personal reasons. And I never charged a penny. I did ask for gas money one time and felt bad. More importantly in my situation it helped me set my equipment up RIGHT and it helped me make a few basshead friends. And in the past year those basshead friends have saved me over 150$ in audio deals when buying new stuff. New justification to buy a dd1?

I noticed most of the people hating the dd-1 didn't actually hate the dd-1, they take shots at Steve, which is rediculous cause they never have a valid reason to. They haven't ever met the guy, so he's never done anything for them to take shots at him. I've come to the conclusion it's pure jealousy because they want to be where he's at but they will never get there and especially with the attitude they have. I'm not an electrical engineer so I have no need for an expensive oscope. I enjoy car audio and the dd-1 is a perfect tool for people like me and it saves us money on equipment we would otherwise burn up if it wasn't for the dd-1. I've never burned up an amp or sub, but it's not cause I'm that good or know all there is to know about audio and electrical. I've gotten lucky is all! Not skill or knowledge of audio signals. I Just recently got into the audio world, since purchasing my DD-1, like 3 months ago, have used it to set my gains on two HU, three amps (my equipment), cousins HU two amps, co-workers HU, Crossover, three amps. Trust me having this tool is not a one time use deal. It has paid for itself and more in the short time I've had it. Absolutely don't regret buying it.

While this is true, the majority of us bassheads are always changing equipment whether it be amps, head units, processor, etc..... Every time you change out that equipment the gain has to be adjusted again. Also you can ( like someone suggested ), charge a fee for other people in your area to help them out and set gains.

What you can do is register yourself in the tools map to try to help others and maybe charge some type of payment.. You can help your friends set their gains correctly, and I'm almost 100% your not going to have one amp in your life time..

I love the DD1 but its not practical for the one-time DIYer. Setting gains is a 10 min job tops, after that, what am i supposed to do with the DD1? You know? Its a great product, so is the CC1 and the VM1 and the AD1 and the whole lineup of SMDamore products, but its just not practical for that one-time user. Great video comparison man, thanks!

This is what I've been saying for the past year or more I've owned my DD-1...it does what it says and those who hate on it have no reason to. They sometimes look at my scope's waveform and say it's clipped before the DD-1, but my scope is a $300 Velleman HPS50, with a very low resolution display. I have the benefit of an analog volume control, but a higher res scope display would help. I recently got in a B&K scope, but once I get the AD-1, the desktop scope will be gathering dust (until I start taking on repairing amps). I also have another tool I'll show soon compared to the DD-1 and AD-1...it's pretty cool and very old school....

He already does test amp tuesday, so its not a big deal lol, well someone earlier was like saying we should get him to do 2-3 a week, lol. I know it's just suggestions, and I'm sure damn near everyone has something they would be willing to send in but i know i don't have time to do anything extra so i can only imagine his time is limited also. I do like the idea of sending amps in and doing more testing but don't get high hopes, he's not a pawn to do our bidding for us The frequency that the tests are done is up to him. He has already stated that the videos dont get a ton of views on his channel so they arent worth spending a ton of time doing. Just had a thought that I wanted voice.

-10 is usually only used on subwoofers...and is perfectly fine, if you need that. For most people, -10 on subs and -5 on the mids and highs is perfect. Our DD-1 PLUS technology, that is in the AD-1 and someday to be it's own unit, has customize-able overlaps from 20db down. You will be able to choose -3 or -9db for example, if you wanted to. Anyway, when setting gains, whether it is a scope or a DD-1.... 0, -5, and -10 have been standard overlap choices for years. -15 is kinda pushing it but we put it in there anyway, just in case. Great, vid. Personally I have both a tpi 440 and a dd1, both are usefully, but when I set gains, the tpi is more of a high dollar dmm

Thanks gentlemen. I'm glad you liked it. The DD-1 is a good piece of equipment and for the price would be very difficult to beat. The industry needed a tool like it badly. On the negative side, I believe it was a mistake for them to include the -15db and -10 db tones or whatever they were. -5 is about as low as you would want to set. We're not worried about losing some "potential" on music. We're worried about setting our maximum ceiling on our equipment so that it never exceeds its limits. THAT is the objective. Not trying to get every last watt out of every note in every song. That's simply not possible and should not be attempted.

That would be pretty dope to do. Use some of the amps that us ( the car audio community) normally use. But it would be difficult if someone sent in a big amp like a DC9k or sound digital 12k. He does not have the electrical to back something like that up
