  2. an assault rifle is fully automatic.. the AR is a single shot.. its not an assault rifle no matter how much people want it to be Modern Sporting Rifle Facts Download a Pocket Fact Card The modern sporting rifle, based on the AR-15 platform, is widely misunderstood. Why? Confusion exists because while these rifles may cosmetically look like military rifles, they do not function the same way. Also, groups wanting to ban these rifles have for years purposely or through ignorance spread misinformation about them to aid their cause. The National Shooting Sports Foundation asks you to be an informed gun owner and to use the following facts to correct misconceptions about these rifles. Remember, that if AR-15-style modern sporting rifles are banned, your favorite traditional-looking hunting or target shooting semi-automatic firearm could be banned, too. AR-15-platform rifles are among the most popular firearms being sold. They are today's modern sporting rifle. The AR in "AR-15" rifle stands for ArmaLite rifle, after the company that developed it in the 1950s. "AR" does NOT stand for "assault rifle" or "automatic rifle." AR-15-style rifles are NOT "assault weapons" or "assault rifles." An assault rifle is fully automatic -- a machine gun. Automatic firearms have been severely restricted from civilian ownership since 1934. If someone calls an AR-15-style rifle an "assault weapon," he or she either supports banning these firearms or does not understand their function and sporting use, or both. Please correct them. "Assault weapon" is a political term created by California anti-gun legislators to ban some semi-automatic rifles there in the 1980s. AR-15-style rifles look like military rifles, such as the M-16, but function like other semi-automatic civilian sporting firearms, firing only one round with each pull of the trigger. Versions of modern sporting rifles are legal to own in all 50 states, provided the purchaser passes the mandatory FBI background check required for all retail firearm purchasers. Since the 19th century, civilian sporting rifles have evolved from their military predecessors. The modern sporting rifle simply follows that tradition. These rifles' accuracy, reliability, ruggedness and versatility serve target shooters and hunters well. They are true all-weather firearms. Chamberings include .22, .223 (5.56 x 45mm), 6.8 SPC, .308, .450 Bushmaster and about a dozen others. Upper receivers for pistol calibers such as 9 mm, .40, and .45 are available. There are even .410 shotgun versions. These rifles are used for many different types of hunting, from varmint to big game. And they're used for target shooting in the national matches. AR-15-style rifles are no more powerful than other hunting rifles of the same caliber and in most cases are chambered in calibers less powerful than common big-game hunting cartridges like the 30-06 Springfield and .300 Win. Mag. The AR-15 platform is modular. Owners like being able to affix different "uppers" (the barrel and chamber) to the "lower" (the grip, stock). And, they are a lot of fun to shoot!

  6. One of these is legal under some of the gun bans they tried to pass. The other one is illegal and labeled as an assault rifle if the gun ban would have passed. The catch is both of these rifles are Norinco Chinese SKS's Both have the same rate of fire and fire the same 7.62 by 39 round. The only difference between the 2 rifles is 1 has the factory stock, while the other is using a polymer plastic stock from Tapco that costs $80.00 ->http://www.tapco.com/products/sks/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=176 Neither of them are fully automatic rifles, 1 shot per 1 finger pull on the trigger. The biggest gain from the Tapco stock is the ability to add a scope mount, and use a 10, 20, or 30 round magazine instead of 10round stripper clips. However you can convert the stock sks to accpet 30round ak-47 megazines like seen in the first picture. Another reason for people getting these Tapco stocks is due to some of these rifles being from 1960s or before, some of the wooden stocks start to crack which makes it no longer safe to shoot.

  8. by the way.. do you know who named them assault rifles? none other then Adolf Hitler on his propaganda The term "Assault Rifle" is generally attributed to Adolf Hitler, who for propaganda purposes used the German word "Sturmgewehr" (which translates to 'assault rifle'), as the new name for the MP43, subsequently known as the Sturmgewehr 44 or StG 44.[8][12][13][14][15][16] Other sources dispute that Hitler had much to do with coining the new name besides signing the production order.[17] The StG 44 is generally considered the first selective fire military rifle to popularize the assault rifle concept. Today, the term assault rifle is used to define firearms sharing the same basic characteristics as the StG 44.[citation needed] In a strict definition, a firearm must have at least the following characteristics to be considered an assault rifle:[18][19][20] It must be an individual weapon It must be capable of selective fire It must have an intermediate-power cartridge: more power than a pistol but less than a standard rifle or battle rifle Its ammunition must be supplied from a detachable box magazine[21] And it should have an effective range of at least 300 metres (330 yards) the AR variant is not select fire For example: Select-fire M2 Carbines are not assault rifles; their effective range is only 200 meters.[22] Select-fire rifles such as the FN FAL battle rifle are not assault rifles; they fire full-powered rifle cartridges. Semi-automatic-only rifles like variants of the Colt AR-15 are not assault rifles; they do not have select-fire capabilities. Semi-auto rifles with fixed magazines like the SKS are not assault rifles; they do not have detachable box magazines and are not capable of automatic fire. The U.S. Army defines assault rifles as "short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges." assault riffles main intention for manufacture was to assault.. AR main reason for manufacture was for sporting. 2 different things. my AR's are not assault rifles since they haven't assault anyone and was not intended to do so

  9. i didnt say it to offend you but the ar is not an assault rifle.. Terminology does have to do with the leaders pushing the ban.. they claim its an assault rifle that can fire 800 rounds per minutes and they says its an assault rifle to scare the uninformed to vote for the ban. terminology does matter.. YOU'RE the type who thinks is a bad ass by calling your AR an assault rifle a magazine is a magazine a clip is a clip.. 2 different things look man.. i was just stating the terminology is inaccurate.. no need to get bent over it
