  1. Hint - if you have a girlfriend, she can hear better than you as women generally speaking have better hearing and are more sensitive to pitch than men. I used to give my ex full access to my 1/3 octave EQ and let her have at it. She asked me what each of the knobs do and I told her to raise and lower each to their maximum and minimum positions and she could get a feel for what area they affected. Then, I'd let her have at it. Of course, I'd give her something that had all of the basics nailed - all speakers were in phase with respect to one another, crossover points were fine tuned to eliminate peaks / dips in the frequency response, no panel rattles or vibrations, etc. She would sit in the car for a few hours and listen to her favorite music and just tweak away. When she was done, I was typically blown away by the results and typically left the EQ settings exactly as she set them. If I looked at her results on an RTA, it was really quite amazing how smooth the response was from one octave to the next. Occasionally, I could pinpoint a problem or two that she was unable to resolve just by listening that could be simply corrected with like 1/8th turn on the respective control on the EQ and done. This is also a great way to get your significant other involved in your hobby. When you're giving your demos, she'll be telling your buddies, "I tuned it."

  3. You don't have to lose the potential for bass, you just have to make it blend. One of the beautiful things about a level controller is you can build a bigger sub-stage and lower the level for "sq" applications then crank it back up when you want the bass to be the focus again.

  4. ya like i said, i am a student at this still BUT, im no dummy either. I am very familiar with most of the basic tuning, basic time alignment and eq'ing. Been doing that for years....but now i am learning how to tune on a whole new level. I have a lifetime to go. There is so much to learn.

  6. hmmmm, Ya well if people like the way this 8 turns out maybe we will start toolings to make diffrent sizes of it DC needs something to put the SA-8v2 and dd 2508 to shame lol or at least compete with 'em.

  7. I really want a high roll surround. Also I really like the split spider idea as well as the new 8". A magnet boot would be pretty cool as well as a dc branding on the frame. Carbon Fiber full dish dustcap. Supersized standard dustcap, basically to make an 18" sub look like one of thorshammers

  9. and carbon cone No point in a Carbon Cone for the 8s. You wouldnt see it. Even the 10s you dont see the cone once the dustcap is on. So we can plug 4 awg into our 8s lol Yeah you would do this after I put 4awg direct leads on my Level 6s.

  13. obviously better cooling for higher power handling. Ya, If we tool a new frame we can add some more cooling to it and use the XL style cooling on the 8

  14. Alright 1st suggestion is multiple spiders with a spider spacer. We can do that but it will require the tooling of a new frame so we can get the height needed

  16. Clipping and distortion isn't the same thing. Also just because a scope shows a nice rounded wave at the peak, doesn't mean it's not clipping on the way up or down the slope. 1% distortion is very minimal, and isn't detected on most LCD screams on oscopes. Personally I have a tip 440 oscopes and and upgraded dd1 to a HV version. I'll use the dd1 first every time. The scope now is just and overpriced dmm
