  1. So i gues that rules out the possibility of a Level 6 8 huh.

  3. hahahaha. this reminds me of something else. How about a field replaceable spider/cone/surround? It would be cool to be able to swap my lvl 5s from 18's to 12s or w/e and back without having to completely recone and junk whatever it was. is something like that even remotely feasible? that's how the SoloX is.

  4. Man, I am getting super stoked on these 8's right now. I may just have to wait on my rebuild of my truck until these go into production and throw 2 or 4 8's in my single cab. That being said, I am all for a 2" coil and a tall surround with the XL cooling. even a 2.5" seems like a little bit of overkill on an 8" sub, at least to me. But then again I don't build subs for a living. Edit: also the logo on the basket spokes looks really fucking good man.

  7. Lol.....lvl 6 8. I'd love to see that mounted. Personally I don't see a reason for anything bigger then 2". As stated 8s are commonly used in limited space applications. If there's room for a monster step it up to the Xl 10 lol. But we need something for here damn trucks and small hybrid smart cars

  8. The 2" coil has proven to be able to handle 600w or more with ease.(i mean who listens to manufacture power ratings anyway.....) For the guys buying 8s, not too many are trying to throw 2k to 1 8 anyway. For most people that are going to buy the 8s, they are building a small setup in a trunk or any vehicle with space constraints and they dont want to dump alot of money into electrical upgrades to be able to run alot of power. 2 8s and a 1.2k are a great combo.

  9. haha yes we did. See all of those random questions I ask do stick with me. I might not know exactly what you mean at the time, but its times like this when that light comes on and it all makes sense. Cant wait to get out there and learn as much as I can in the few days that I have! Who knows, maybe something big will happen in the next few weeks and there will be a huge amount of orders that need to be built

  13. Interesting exchange. Guys, the 6-mic array and the associated hardware are utilized to provide the nth degree in performance from a well designed good sounding audio system and they can easily point the tuner in the direction of addressing minor problems before any equalization is done - IE frequency response issues caused by phasing issues at crossover points between speakers, improper time alignment settings, etc. The process of equalization itself is one of personal preference. As Steve points out, "flat" typically sounds dull and lifeless - especially as we grow older and our hearing "tops out" at 16 Khz . . . or lower. The old saying, "the one who equalizes least equalizes best" really rings true in this area. The process of equalizing should be to remove peaks and dips in the response and have a somewhat smooth response from octave to octave. This is something that only a handful of people I've encountered since the 80s can do by ear - Mark Fukuda and Terry Soohoo are the two standouts that were able to demonstrate this to me personally. For the rest of us, having tools such as these at our disposal can help to get us there. FWIW, my mustang underwent the 6-mic array when I was employed at Rockford in like 2006. Mark Fukuda and I got it pretty close by ear and then Mike Cozza took it from there with the 6-mic array. He made several very slight changes to the equalization over a period of several hours. The results were amazing to my ears - so amazing that I've never touched it since. It's unbelievable. Steve, be sure and save a back-up of that file and document the gains of each amplifier by voltage at a set volume setting should you ever be required to swap an amp down the road.

  15. i don't "need" 2 guys from RF to come do a tune up. I know how to use the software. Its easy. Tuning is a pain for anyone serious about it, but the software is not a pain. also, i don't own a 6 array mic setup. It was a privilege and an honor for them to fly out just to help me get it sounding as good as we can get it though.

  18. That would work on the prototypes but on production with the pole mods the dust cap would get knocked right off and/or a hole punched in it
