Interesting exchange. Guys, the 6-mic array and the associated hardware are utilized to provide the nth degree in performance from a well designed good sounding audio system and they can easily point the tuner in the direction of addressing minor problems before any equalization is done - IE frequency response issues caused by phasing issues at crossover points between speakers, improper time alignment settings, etc. The process of equalization itself is one of personal preference. As Steve points out, "flat" typically sounds dull and lifeless - especially as we grow older and our hearing "tops out" at 16 Khz . . . or lower. The old saying, "the one who equalizes least equalizes best" really rings true in this area. The process of equalizing should be to remove peaks and dips in the response and have a somewhat smooth response from octave to octave. This is something that only a handful of people I've encountered since the 80s can do by ear - Mark Fukuda and Terry Soohoo are the two standouts that were able to demonstrate this to me personally. For the rest of us, having tools such as these at our disposal can help to get us there. FWIW, my mustang underwent the 6-mic array when I was employed at Rockford in like 2006. Mark Fukuda and I got it pretty close by ear and then Mike Cozza took it from there with the 6-mic array. He made several very slight changes to the equalization over a period of several hours. The results were amazing to my ears - so amazing that I've never touched it since. It's unbelievable. Steve, be sure and save a back-up of that file and document the gains of each amplifier by voltage at a set volume setting should you ever be required to swap an amp down the road.2 points

eh, id say you take all 4 of those and make a whole new driver, or update a current line such as the lvl6 or lvl52 points

Don't laugh too hard there sir lol. Never done one or heard one no clue how this really works. Is the real goal to have it as close to perfect flat or is it different? flat is the oldschool way of scoring high......but it has never meant "better sound". Flat usually sounds like dog shit.2 points

i don't "need" 2 guys from RF to come do a tune up. I know how to use the software. Its easy. Tuning is a pain for anyone serious about it, but the software is not a pain. also, i don't own a 6 array mic setup. It was a privilege and an honor for them to fly out just to help me get it sounding as good as we can get it though.2 points

Its interesting, throught my entire career of installing/car audio retail store owner I never sold that many 8's But since we started selling them we sold ALOT of 8's I was amazed at how many people buy them. I have one in my own car and smashes. And it took me bugging you long enough to make them Now produce me a 800x2 KTHXBYE1 point

i think a great business idea is to make quality pre fabs for your subs to spec buy a sub and box combo ship em all the end user will have to do is put an amp to it dont do custom ones each lvl has a 1 box to its spec ether it will work for the customer or not1 point
