1,074$ for Timing Belt + Water Pump + Valve Gasket work at the Auto Shop . No car for 2 days!

Autoshop owner said he needed 2 days when I dropped my car off. I called on second day 1 hour before closing and he said he needed more time and will give me a call tomorrow morning. So... is it normal for them to not give me updates ahead of time if they needed more time? I thought it was weird that I had to call them instead of them calling me with the updates.
-
If its a small independent like mine if you are busy you tend to lose track of who needs to be called. I dont have multiple "service writers" that can sit and just make calls all day like you would get at a dealer. He may have lost track and forgot to call.

It's a small shop and he's had it since 1981. I think the business is mainly ran by him and his son (early thirties) and a few older mechanic guys. Last time I was there I can see his three year old grandson chillin at the front desk with them. I pretty much just showed up and payed the bill and shook his hand and said thanks for working on my car.
I asked him how was it working on the Camry and he noted that there were a lot of water everywhere when he did the valve gasket changing. He also asked me if I did my own oil change because he noticed there was something down the oil pan area that needs replacement (probably needs a new washer for the bolt).
Overall, he was a man of very few words but my instincts tell me he does good work when he needs to complete any given task and he's not afraid to keep the car for a couple more days to make sure it gets done right.
My co-worker was the one that recommended the shop and also let me know that the old mechanic owner there is just and old grumpy guy but does good work (he had 3 cars done there).
Also, I tried to ask the old guy if it would be possible to get dual alternators going in my Camry with custom brackets and he kinda refused that job request lol. Dude didn't even recommend any other shops that might be able to do it ( I guess it's not that common to have dual alts in a Camry).

Retuning my DC5K (removing the Harrison SSF and using amp built in SSF). Should I use Linkwitz-Riley Borbutterworth for setting the Filter? Thoughts?

What frequency were you taking that reading at?
-
Yes it can make a difference. Also the -5 tone make s a difference vs the -10
-
@SnowDrifter I was using the 40Hz @-5dB from SMD DD-1 cd.
My original tune settings was 40Hz @ 0dB for tuning which essentially was only feeding around 2000W when I played the -5dB tone to see what the difference were.
-
To kinda seal off the subs shooting into my cabin, I shoved two pillows on each side to close the air gaps. thought?

Have you clampped your amp to see how much power you are really getting? How much are you rising?

Going to buy a clamp meter from sears tomorrow.

All of the sh!t here and there that I've been buying for my install is starting to add up

Yeah it will add up and before you know it you will be in so deep and wondering how the heck and why the heck you spent that much money on car stereo equipment.
-
And then you turn it up again and go "oh yeah, that's why" lol.
-
Imagine what a badass computer you could have built
-
Damnit. I bought this on sonix and thought I was paying for two but it was only one pod. In addition, the damn thing is bulky and inner diameter is too big! Going to request for a return label for this piece of junk.

Which forum are all of the Digital Designs builds at? Everyone seems to be using DC Audio, Sundown, and FI on most of the forums I'm browsing.

Oh. Hmm I will have to do research on these two brands.
-
crossfire sucks.......... Lol just kidding, I'm leaning towards getting some xs-v2's
-
a kid I grew up with had 4 c7's on a ddm4 ( I gotta check again on the amp) but he got loud. I know he cracked a 50
-
Anyone seen CJ18? He built my box for my XLM2's years ago and I was wondering if he still did box building in case I need to upgrade my subs again

yes sir he sure does

Thats an old page, started as a joke when I was told I couldnt do it years ago. Finally made a legit page after becoming legit and doing it full-time now.
Got somethings planned but gotta get a few other things in check prior. Wont say my ideas because I know how those biters are out there
New page. https://www.facebook.com/AudiofanaticzLLC/-

Is it bad idea to TechFlex both power and ground wire together? They're only 4 Gauge wire so I figured I put them into 1 tech flex run...
- Show previous comments 5 more
-
Yah i dont see an issue. You were gonna put them in separate techflex sleeves anyway and lay them right next to eachother. I dont see how thats different from putting both together in one over sized sleeve. Then again i dont know much about this lol.

Someone link me some Sundown Audio Nightshades Ver 4 Videos please.

Definitely not 6k in that video... That sub isnt even moving being freeaired. No where near its linear excursion or even peak since the surrounds are not even being dimpled.
Must be a SSL or Power Acoustik 6k amp thats really 1500 watts rms. LOL-

Hmm Interesting. I'll probably upgrade this Summer. Hopefully the price doesn't get jacked up

That Nail Polish smell... weird clamp results... DC Audio subs not sounding loud like it should... It all makes sense now.

Either a bad amp... Or coils :/
-
or too cold.. my subs are not DC by the way but every morning it takes a bit warming up to start sounding good. they dont get loud and sound weird but after a few minutes they start to hit hard like in summer time
-
I've just finished switching the subs to fire towards the rear. I'm going for a test drive to see how this turns out.
I can't believe it took 1 hr 30 minutes to get the subs into the box. The original screw holes I had were going in all sorts of direction making it hard to screw the 55lb+ sub in the box ><

I took out my rear speakers and now the inside of my cabin is 3 times as loud. Now I don't know where to put the extra rear speakers Pods?

The rear doors in my car didn't have speaker holes in the doors, so I cut holes, and then trimmed the metal in the door frame a bit so it wouldn't come in contact with the motors. I did the exact same thing you are doing. Btw you should totes get your name changed, you look like one of those spammers that come on here haha.

^ This. Might need a little fiberglass too

lol. I really regret having MoH.vze.com as my alias but that's a username I've been using since 1998 on a bunch of websites and I'm kinda attached to it.

Since I can't fit all 4 runs of 1/0 through the left side of car, I'm thinking about putting two of the 1/0 runs through the middle with my RCA's + Speakerwire+remote wire. Thoughts?
- Show previous comments 3 more
-
I suppost you could try it, and then if it does create alt whine then you can move it.
-
If you have higher quality RCAs I doubt there will be a issue. But I always run them separate. Don't want to take a chance lol.
-
Thanks for the advice. I'll just run 2x positive on the left driver side and 2x ground through the middle with the rca's and other stuff.
-
So this contest, am I only allowed to submit one entry or can I submit one on SMD and one on DiymobileAudio and one on FaceBook? I have accounts on the other stuff that I use to read and PM people but I'm more active on SMD.

Wasting so much gas due to all of the extra weight added to my Camry from my sound system But I remind myself the SPL is worth it ~.~

i drive around 2k rpm all the time. still get 16 city with stang
-
Hey moh, you sure everything is running tip top shape? Maybe you have some small issue that the extra weight is just making worse
-
My rear trunk sags a lot but I see no signs of strange wear in the tires. http://vietpho.net/~images/2017carproject/trunk-sag/
I'm pretty sure it's the weight because I started to noticed the difference when I took everything related to car audio out of my car when I had to drop my car off at the mechanic shop. My car didn't burn as much as and I could drive normally without needing to rev my rpm much. For example, when my car was empty, I didn't need to accelerate much or at all during straight roads to maintain a steady 40 MPH but now with all the weight back into my car, I'd have to keep my foot on the acceleration just to maintain the speed.

What happened to that DIYMA topic regarding 50% ?

hmm try posting it on the deal thread

There was already a thread. It got deleted apparently

finding a "hot deal" on something and telling us about it is a lot different then promoting another websites complete "black friday sale". Plus i don't endorse or help or drive traffic to any sites that when i go to them, i see extreme hatred of me whenever my name is mentioned. Sorry.

The ones im talking about arent skyhigh, unless theyre rebranded? But the ones i have are super heavy, u can see them on my battery on my recent pic posts of my trunk on the charger.
-
These ones look interesting
https://droppinhzcaraudio.com/jims-machineworx-flat-5-lug-bolt-style-battery-terminal-pair/
but I need the ones where the battery mount is in the middle because I have a XS Power clamp down bar for my battery that might short out the terminals.
Toolmaker had these similar ones too but again it's hard for me to connect things without shorting out:
Here's the middle bar clamp down I'm talking about:
-
Oh ok i get what ur saying now, yah jims dont have any like that with a center bolt location. Unless you go with the setscrew type, they have those like this. But id prefer the bolt down with ring terminal style too.

Just the stitching holding it on the spider is loose? And why only that one song?
-
@MrSkippyJ
I took a picture here:
As you can see, it still has one stitching holding it down.
I added felt pads to it recently:
Here's a youtube recording of that sub with the unstitched Tinsel. It's weird because only this Tinsel had issues and the other sub showed no signs of Tinsel slap. Who knows how long before this sub goes bad. I'm in the process of saving money for new subs later this year so I need to save every penny where I can of everything I spend money on. They cut my overtime at work so money in flow is gonna suck for Blue collared people like me

Thinkng about getting all of my windows tinted except the windshield. However, Oregon law will only let me do 35% tint. Thoughts? I was qouted $245 from a reputable shop.

If you're willing to risk a fine, than go for it. haha, I, personally, don't have a job, so if that happens to me, I'm a bit SOL. Where do you live? Different counties/cities may be more or less lenient (for all I know)..
-
It's over $300 fine here so I probably will just do 35% all around.
-
Yeh, that's prolly for the best.

It was the most laziest shit he ever put together. Let me break it down. The lyrical content sounded straight up like a bunch of facebook posts mashed into lyrical content(I can break that down even more but it gets racial). The beats was trash, like he used a keyboard in his basement. The topics he spoke on were meant to spark conversation that brings intrigue to his album so people can listen to keep up with the kardashians. His subliminals weren't subliminal, he just didn't say names. He knew people were tired of mumble rap. There is so much more better shit out there but Rap/ Hip hop isn't what it used to be so you won't find it easily. Not saying I'm a rap listener GOD but the artists I share on What are you currently listening to is worth giving a shot
